MISSION OF THE MONTH

Heart and Sole

For over 27 years Heart & Sole has been raising money for cancer patients in and around the Mitchell area. Their annual walk will be held on Friday, June 19th at Hitchcock Park.

APRIL “ONE THING”

Our April “One Thing” is bottled water for our Mitchell Public Service Personnel.

MAY “ONE THING”

Our May “One Thing” will be a cash offering that will support the 2026 Miracle Offering at the Dakotas Annual Conference. There are 2 projects that the money will be used to support.1) The endowment for theological education to help United Methodist in Africa, the Philippians, and Europe prepare for ministry. 2) Provide education and training for laity in the Dakotas Conference equipping disciples for leadership.

  THIS IS THE WAY

Be sure to join us for worship on April 26.  Pastor Keith will be starting the next Sermon Series, “This Is the Way!”  In this sermon series we’ll be taking a closer look at The Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5-7.  If it is truly our desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus and live out God’s Kingdom together, The Sermon on the Mount will help us understand how to do just that.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

Join us for our Wednesday night Bible study on April 29 at 7:00pm. That week’s topic will be on Judaism. We are pleased to welcome our guest speaker, Dr. Joel Allen, who brings extensive knowledge and insight into Judaism. He will help up explore the similarities and differences between Christianity and Judaism. All are welcome to attend.

INTERNET AND WI-FI WORK

We recently had work done on our internet and Wi-Fi system. If you experience any connection issues, please try reconnecting and re-entering the Wi-Fi Password: L&ve1234. Thank you for your patience!

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY

Join us on May 3 as we celebrate our confirmands and the faith they are claiming as their own. This is a meaningful moment in the life of our church as we affirm and support them on their journey. Confirmands, please be at the church by 8:45am for pictures on May 3rd.

We invite the whole congregation to come and celebrate this special day!

Confirmation Practice will be on Saturday May 2nd at 10AM for parents and confirmands.

This is a special time to recognize who they are, all they have accomplished, and the ways they have been a meaningful part of our church family. We give thanks for each of them and send them forward with our love, prayers, and encouragement as they step into this next chapter. All are invited to celebrate with us! Please submit your photos and information sheet to Tonya by Friday, May 1st. You can email info to tonya@downtownfirstumc.com or drop off at the church office.

YEEHAW!! VBS IS COMING!

Open to kids aged 4 through 5th grade. Then come back on June 14 as we celebrate together during worship, followed by a food truck and more fun for everyone! CHURCH FAMILY PUZZLE PROJECT

In the gathering area, you will find puzzle pieces available for each person to sign. We ask that you write your name or initials on a piece. Each piece is a part of a larger picture- a beautiful image of our church. In a few weeks, the puzzle will be assembled, framed, and displayed on the wall as a lasting reminder of our shared community. Just like each puzzle piece is essential to complete the picture, every one of us plays an important and unique role in the life of our church. We hope that you will take a moment to participate and be part of this meaningful display!

VERSE FOR REFLECTION: Psalm 1:1-2

Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law they meditate day and night.

NATIVE AMERICAN SUNDAY

On this Sunday, April 19th, many United Methodist congregations will celebrate Native American Ministries Sunday. Native American Ministries Sunday is one of six churchwide Special Sundays designated to support ministries and causes important to the entire United Methodist Church. On this day, we come together to honor and support Indigenous peoples and communities. It’s a day to recognize the rich gifts, cultures, and contributions of Native Americans to both society and the Church. Special Sundays give us a chance to focus our prayers and support on important ministries all year long—uniting our gifts to multiply our impact. Your generosity strengthens Native leadership and sustains ministry across the connection. There are special envelopes located at the entrances to the Worship Center.

VERSE FOR REFLECTION: 1 Corinthians 15:54-57

When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Here I Am, Lord 593 UMH

PRELUDE:

GREETING:

CALL TO WORSHIP:

L: Welcome to this Lenten moment-a season when we slow down

long enough to face the truth about ourselves.

P: We come as we are- aware of our brokenness, yet hungry

     for grace.

L: Scripture tells us that all have fallen short-yet God has not turned

     away from us.

P: Instead, God met us at the cross.

L: In Jesus, God stepped into our place- bearing what we could not

carry, paying what we could not repay.

P: Through Christ’s sacrifice, mercy is given and forgiveness is

     real.

L: And now the invitation stands before us: be reconciled to God, be

    made new.

P: In Christ we are a new creation; the old has gone, the new

    has begun.

L: So come- bring your burdens, your regrets, your hopes.

P: We come to the cross, where grace is deeper than our sin. So,

today we gather to worship the God who saves.

PRELUDE:

GREETING:

CALL TO WORSHIP:

L: In the wilderness, the people grew restless. They forgot the

      goodness of God.

P: We, too have wandered. We, too, have grumbled and

       turned away.

L: Yet God, in mercy, made a way for healing.

P: When the serpent was lifted up, those who looked were

       given life.

L: In humility, Christ came among us- not grasping for power, but

      emptying Himself in love.

P: He humbled Himself, becoming obedient even to death on

       a cross.

L: Where our pride fractured communion, His obedience restored it.

P: Where we brought dishonor, He offered faithful love.

L: So in this season of repentance, we lift our eyes to the One who

      was lifted up.

P: We look and live. We bow in gratitude. We come to worship.

In this series, we’ll reflect on the power and wonder of the cross and discover what it means for our lives and our faith today.

Join us each Sunday during Lent or watch online anytime. This series will wrap up on Good Friday, the day in which the cross takes center stage in Jesus’ life.

PRELUDE:

GREETING:

CALL TO WORSHIP:

L: The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing

P: But to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

L: The wisdom of the world seeks strength, success, and

     self-preservation.

P: But Christ calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and

    follow him.

L: For what will it profit us to gain the whole world,

P: And forfeit our very souls?

L: In this season of Lent, we turn again toward the cross.

P: We come to listen, to learn, and to be transformed.

L: God has chosen what seems weak to reveal true strength.

P: God has chosen what seems foolish to reveal true wisdom.

L: Come, then, let us worship the One who calls us to follow.

P: We take up our cross with Christ, and worship the Savior

     of the world.

GIVING TO OUR CHURCH

As we begin a new year the Finance Team and the leadership of our church encourage all of us to think about the different ways we can give to our church throughout the year. There are many service and prayer opportunities, as well as other community focused ways to give of ourselves.

Regarding financial giving, there are many ways to give; of course, there is cash or checks in the plate offering, but there is also electronic and ACH giving options. There are also non-cash giving options such as stock, grain, MRDs, other investments, and even through life insurance policies.

As we begin a new year of ministry, we know there are many options for your charitable giving dollars to go to. We believe our church is a great investment in our community and in God’s Kingdom. For more information you can talk to Craig McManus our Finance Chair.

2026 BIBLE READING PLAN

In 2025 Bishop Lanette asked us to read with her through the New Testament books of Luke and Acts. Today marks the last day of reading through that plan. YEAR- END GIVING

We have come to the final week of the year; we invite you to consider Downtown Mitchell First UMC in your year-end giving plans. In addition to traditional gifts, the church is able to receive a variety of non-cash contributions such as grain, stock, and minimum required distributions. These options can offer meaningful stewardship opportunities while also providing potential tax advantages. If you have questions or would like guidance, please contact the church office or Craig McManus, the Finance Team chair.  We are grateful for the many ways you support the ministry we share.

2026 BIBLE READING PLAN

In 2025 Bishop Lanette asked us to read with her through the New Testament books of Luke and Acts. Today marks the last day of reading through that plan. For those of you who like to have a reading plan, Pastor Keith has developed a plan for 2026 in which we’ll read together through Paul’s letter, which makes up about 2/3 of the New Testament. This reading plan will take us chronologically through Paul’s letters and we’ll be reading 1-2 chapters a week. You can pick up a reading guide on the tables at each entry to the Worship Center or at the Welcome Desk by the church office.

SUNDAY SCHOOL AND YOUTH GROUP

There will not be Sunday School on December 28th. Sunday School will resume on Sunday, January 4th.

There will not be Youth Group on December 31st. Youth Group will resume on January 7th.

VERSE FOR REFLECTION: Isaiah 9:6-7

For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
