DOWNTOWN MOM’S SMALL GROUP

Hey, Momma- you’re invited! Downtown Mom’s is a new small group created for moms who want a little time to breathe, connect, sip some coffee, and grow in faith together. We’ll meet Sundays at 9AM during the Sunday School hour, beginning Sept. 20th in the youth room, for honest conversation, friendship, coffee, and a biblical topic to help us navigate the beautiful, messy, exhausting, and joyful season of motherhood. Come as you are- the coffee’s hot, the welcome is warm, and there’s a place for you here!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

At some point, our lives get messy. Illness, conflict, depression, divorce, job loss...it happens, and when it does, there's nowhere to hide. Thankfully, God loves us, despite our brokenness. In this study we will look at Rahab, the prodigal son, Josiah, Mary, David and Daniel and how their messy lives and stories changed the world.  Please join us beginning Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm downstairs in room 103.  Books are $13.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS SERMON SERIES

As a follower of Jesus, did you know that you have gifts…spiritual gifts? You do! Not only do we each have gifts, our gifts are needed for the greater Church and Body of Christ to be most effective. Today Pastor Keith begins a sermon series called “You’ve Got Gifts.”  Over the next 5 weeks we’ll unpack what gifts are and why they are important. There will even be an opportunity for each of us to discover our spiritual gifts if you don’t know what they are. Come join us!!

LOVEFEAST AND UWF KITCHEN/DINING ROOM

 REMODEL FUNDRAISER

Vintage silverware turned into unique pieces and RADA products will be for sale prior to and following worship on Sunday, Sept. 20. Carol Hasz will have a table set up in the Gathering Area. All proceeds will go towards the Kitchen/Dining Room Remodel Project.

KITCHEN/DINING ROOM REMODEL PROJECT

Work has begun on the Kitchen/Dining Room Remodel. This has been a project long in coming. The work to be done includes new cabinets, floor, ceiling, lighting, walls freshly painted and textured, and some new appliances. The total project is anticipated to be around $120,000.  The Trustees have some funds on hand and are seeking donations to complete the project. If you’d like to donate, you can talk to Dawn Williams, a Trustee, Pastor Keith, or simply bring your gift to the church and make sure it is marked Kitchen Project. Thank you for your interest and help. We look forward to the completed project.

LOVE FEAST

During the kitchen/dining room remodel, Love Feast will be serving and hosting at The Masonic Hall, 112 E. 5th Ave, Mitchell.  If you have any questions, please reach out to any of the Love Feast Task Force Members.

VERSE FOR REFLECTION: Luke 8:34-35

When the swineherds saw what had happened, they ran off and told it in the city and in the country. Then people came out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.

L: During these summer days, many of us find ourselves drawn to the

P: To fish, to boat, to swim, or simply to enjoy the beauty of

L: We come today to another shoreline-

P: To meet the God who speaks through the waters.

L: Throughout Scripture, God used seas, rivers, and lakes to reveal

His power, His presence, and His purpose.

P: Today we remember the waters of the Red Sea, where God

came to Moses and the people in their distress.

L: Yet today, when fear surrounds us…

P: God is our refuge.

L: When we feel trapped…

P: God leads us forward.

L: Come, let us worship the One who still parts the waters, calms our

fears, and calls us to trust.

P: We come with grateful hearts, ready to worship the Lord!

It is used to describe women who are extreme athletes, high-level executives, or supermodels. Women at the top of their game. But what about the rest of us? Can we be fierce? Absolutely! In fact, women like us have been changing the world for thousands of years—many who received little fanfare yet lived fiercely anyway. In this six-week study we will look at lesser-known female characters in the Bible and the ways they changed the world by living into God’s calling. Please contact Natalie if you have any questions.

                 SUMMER BOOK STUDY

Bishop Lanette will be leading a summer book discussion via zoom.  The discussion will take place on the fourth Saturday of July, August, and September from 9:00 –10:30 am. The book that will be discussed is entitled, “Building Beloved Community” written by the Council of Bishops of the United Methodist Church. In these days, in which it often seems that our sense of community is fractured by divisiveness, this book is intended to help us think about and find ways to build beloved community in our community and in our church. You must register to receive the Zoom link for the study. Register at this link https://dkmnumcreg.brtapp.com/SummerBookStudy2026  The book can be ordered through Cokesbury.com, or wherever you usually order books.

All Sunday School and Youth Ministry volunteers are asked to attend our mandatory Volunteer Training & Supper on August 12 at 5:30 in the chapel. NATALIE’S WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

Fierce Women’s Bible Study is the next 6-week study beginning Wednesday, July 29 thru September 2 at 7pm. Study Workbooks are ordered. This is not just for women, all are welcome to join in. The word fierce is trendy.

LITTLE FREE FOOD PANTRY

Our church Little Free Food Pantry continues to be a resource for individuals and families in our community. We stock it every day. We are currently accepting donations of non-perishable food items such as tuna, pasta (Knorr), rice (Knorr), mac & cheese cups & breakfast items. Donations can be brought to the church office. Thank you for your kindness and support in this project and in serving others.

TODAY IS PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY

The world is full of conflict, division, and injustice.  Peace with Justice Sunday reminds us that the church has a role to play in making things right. United Methodists believe that working for peace means addressing the deeper causes of conflict- like poverty, racism, and oppression. It’s not just about ending war, but about building a world where everyone is treated with dignity.

Peace with Justice Sunday matters because it equips United Methodists to advocate for change and support ministries that challenge systems on inequality and violence. There are special envelopes located as you enter the Worship Center.

Are you interested in learning more about the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church and the denomination we are a part of?  Then you are invited to be a delegate at this year’s Annual Conference, which will be held in Bismarck, ND June 5-7.  The church does have funds available to cover expenses.  For more information, please talk to Pastor Keith soon. Annual Conference is just a few weeks away.

SUNDAY SCHOOL COORDINATOR

Downtown Mitchell First United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Sunday School Coordinator with flexible hours to help children and families grow in faith together. This role works with pastors, staff, and volunteers to create a welcoming and engaging Sunday School environment.

We are looking for someone who loves working with children and families, builds relationships well, is organized, and enjoys working as part of a team.

For more information and/or a job application, please contact Pastor Keith Nelson or Tonya Stahl at Downtown Mitchell First UMC.

THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS ~ BRINGING GENEROSITY TO LIFE

Downtown Mitchell First United Methodist Church is now enrolled in Thrivent Choice. So, what does this mean? 1. Our church will appear in the Thrivent Choice online catalog. 2. Thrivent members can make an online personal donation through the Thrivent Choice catalog. Thrivent Choice reflects the heart of Thrivent- empowering clients with memberships to live generously and make an impact on the organizations and causes they care about most.

2026 HEART AND SOLE LUMINARIES

If you would like to purchase a luminary in honor or in memory of someone, we have them available to purchase. The cost is $5 each. After June 18, luminaries may be purchased at Hitchcock Park for $10 each. Fill the form out and attach your money with a paperclip. Tonya will take care of the rest. There are forms available at one of the high-top tables in the Gathering Area. If you have any questions-please let us know.

PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY ~ SUNDAY, MAY 31ST

The world is full of conflict, division, and injustice.  Peace with Justice Sunday reminds us that the church has a role to play in making things right. United Methodists believe that working for peace means addressing the deeper causes of conflict- like poverty, racism, and oppression. It’s not just about ending war, but about building a world where everyone is treated with dignity.

Peace with Justice Sunday matters because it equips United Methodists to advocate for change and support ministries that challenge systems on inequality and violence.

LITTLE FOOD PANTRY

Our church Little Food Pantry continues to be a resource for individuals and families in our community. We are currently accepting donations of non-perishable food items such as tuna, pasta (Knorr), rice (Knorr), & breakfast items. Donations can be brought to the church office. Thank you for your kindness and support in this project and in serving others.
