TAKING CARE OF YOU: MENTAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING NIGHT

Life can be busy and overwhelming, which is why it's important to make time to care for ourselves. Join us on July 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel for an interactive evening focused on mental health and well-being. We'll explore practical ways to prevent burnout, develop healthy coping skills, and practice realistic self-care. Enjoy fun snacks and drinks while connecting with others and gaining tools to support your well-being. Childcare is available upon request - Just RSVP  tonya@downtownfirstumc.com or call the church office 605- 996-7721. We hope you'll join us!

LOVE FEAST BACKPACK AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Registration for backpacks and school supplies is now available. Go to Love Feast of Mitchell Facebook page for the registration link and for more information. In person sign-ups are available at Love Feast Meals and the Salvation Army. The deadline to apply for a shoe voucher is July 31st.

PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED

You may know that Avera is completing a computer system update.  This is a perfect time to make sure you are listed as "Methodist" the next time you are registering for a doctor's appointment or being admitted to the hospital. Being listed as "Methodist" means your name will appear on the Methodist list that Pastor Keith receives when he makes visits at the hospital.  And please remember to let us in the church office know if you are admitted to the hospital or a care facility. That way Pastor Keith and Short can stay connected with you.

DRIVERS NEEDED FOR MEALS ON WHEELS

The next period for us to provide drivers for Meals on Wheels is July 13 to August 21. If you are able to drive on any of the days during that period, or would like more information about what is involved, please contact Dave Mitchell at 605-999-8435.

         SUMMER BOOK STUDY

Bishop Lanette will be leading a summer book discussion via zoom.  The discussion will take place on the fourth Saturday of June, July, August, and September from 9:00 –10:30 am. The book that will be discussed is entitled, “Building Beloved Community” written by the Council of Bishops of the United Methodist Church. In these days, in which it often seems that our sense of community is fractured by divisiveness, this book is intended to help us think about and find ways to build beloved community in our community and in our church. You must register to receive the Zoom link for the study. Register at this link https://dkmnumcreg.brtapp.com/SummerBookStudy2026  The book can be ordered through Cokesbury.com, or wherever you usually order books.

     HAITI ALIVE – FRIENDRAISING GATHERINGS

Bruce Blomer is bringing together friends and prospective friends of the Haiti Alive ministry.  These gatherings will take place in early July.  The Mitchell gathering is scheduled for July 7 at 5:30 pm at Palace City Brewing – 227 W. Railroad Ave.  A second gathering will take place in Sioux Falls on July 8 at 11:30 am or 5:30 pm at JJ’s – 3000 W 57th Ave.  Please RSVP, since a free meal is involved, by calling 605-770-5156.  You can also register online through the following link:  <https://pp.events/bbkBbr3N>.  Thank you for your interest and support of Haiti Alive.

LITTLE FREE FOOD PANTRY

Our church Little Free Food Pantry continues to be a resource for individuals and families in our community. We stock it every day. We are currently accepting donations of non-perishable food items such as tuna, pasta (Knorr), rice (Knorr), mac & cheese cups & breakfast items. Donations can be brought to the church office. Thank you for your kindness and support in this project and in serving others.

VERSE FOR REFLECTION: Romans 8:5-6

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
