MAY “ONE THING”
Our May “One Thing” is a cash offering that will support the 2026 Miracle Offering at the Dakotas Annual Conference. There are 2 projects that the money will be used to support.1) The endowment for theological education to help United Methodist in Africa, the Philippians, and Europe prepare for ministry. 2) Provide education and training for laity in the Dakotas Conference equipping disciples for leadership.
JUNE “ONE THING”
Our June “One Thing” collection will be boxed breakfast cereal for children attending the free summer meal program at Mitchell Middle School and Longfellow Elementary School. Donations may be brought to the church throughout the month as we help support local families and children in our community.
YEEHAW!! WILD WEST VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Registration is open for VBS happening June 12-14. This exciting adventure is for kids ages 4 thru 5th grade and will include games, music, faith-filled activities, and more.
We’ll kick things off on Friday evening, June 12, with pizza for all participants. On Saturday, June 13, kids should pack a lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day. We’ll wrap up the weekend on Sunday, June 14, as we celebrate together during worship, with the SDSU Ice Cream truck (free scoop for everyone) and fellowship following worship.
SUNDAY SCHOOL COORDINATOR
We are seeking a part-time, Sunday School Coordinator that will help children and families grow in their faith. This role works with pastors, staff, and volunteers to create a welcoming and engaging Sunday School environment. This is a paid position with flexible hours, 10-15 hours a week.
We are looking for someone who loves working with children and families, builds relationships well, is organized, and enjoys working as part of a team.
For more information and/or a job application, please contact Pastor Keith Nelson, Pastor Amber Laffey or Tonya Stahl at Downtown Mitchell First UMC.
THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS ~ BRINGING GENEROSITY TO LIFE
Downtown Mitchell First United Methodist Church is now enrolled in Thrivent Choice. So, what does this mean? 1. Our church will appear in the Thrivent Choice online catalog. 2. Thrivent members can make an online personal donation through the Thrivent Choice catalog. Thrivent Choice reflects the heart of Thrivent- empowering clients with memberships to live generously and make an impact on the organizations and causes they care about most.
2026 HEART AND SOLE LUMINARIES
If you would like to purchase a luminary in honor or in memory of someone, we have them available to purchase. The cost is $5 each. After June 18, luminaries may be purchased at Hitchcock Park for $10 each. Fill the form out and attach your money with a paperclip. Tonya will take care of the rest. There are forms available at one of the high-top tables in the Gathering Area. If you have any questions-please let us know.
TODAY IS PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY
The world is full of conflict, division, and injustice. Peace with Justice Sunday reminds us that the church has a role to play in making things right. United Methodists believe that working for peace means addressing the deeper causes of conflict- like poverty, racism, and oppression. It’s not just about ending war, but about building a world where everyone is treated with dignity.
Peace with Justice Sunday matters because it equips United Methodists to advocate for change and support ministries that challenge systems on inequality and violence. There are special envelopes located as you enter the Worship Center.
LITTLE FOOD PANTRY
Our church Little Food Pantry continues to be a resource for individuals and families in our community. We stock it every day. We are currently accepting donations of non-perishable food items such as tuna, pasta (Knorr), rice (Knorr), & breakfast items. Donations can be brought to the church office. Thank you for your kindness and support in this project and in serving others.
VERSE FOR REFLECTION: John 13:34-35
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
