MISSION OF THE MONTH

CASA

The mission of First Circuit Court Appointed Special Advocates is to assure a safe, permanent, nurturing home for every abused and/or neglected child by providing a trained volunteer to advocate for them in the court system.

AUGUST “ONE THING”

Our August “One Thing” is for the Mitchell School District Caring Closet- Socks for School. Socks must be “new”, and all sizes are needed for boys and girls.

WORSHIP IN THE PLAZA

Mark your calendars! We are having worship in the Corn Palace Plaza on Sunday, August 20th at 10AM. For those that are not familiar with the area, there is a stage on the South side of the Corn Palace with a beautiful green space. There will be some chairs available, but you can bring your own chair if you wish. There is a parking lot to the South of the plaza, right behind the Scoreboard for easy access. We will not be having a potluck afterwards- we will have that at our Sunday School kickoff in early September. If have any questions, please call the church office.

THANK YOU

Our Family Ministry Team would like to thank everyone that found a “treasure” on the sale table. We collected $239.50 that will be used to update the “Family Room” in the back of the Worship Center.

 COOKOUT & KICKBALL

Join us for a last bash of summer on Sunday, August 13th from 5-7pm at Patton Young Park! We will provide hot dogs and hamburgers and you are asked to bring a side to share. At 6pm we will have a FUMC vs Fusion kickball game to raise money for The Caring Closet. All ages are invited to play. FUMC will wear red, and Fusion will wear blue so dress accordingly. Please call the office or sign up on the link on Facebook so we can plan for food.

FIND A NEED & FILL IT

You may have noticed a display area in our gathering area decorated with sand and buckets. We are looking for and asking for volunteers. Please take a few minutes to write your name and number down in an area that you feel like you would be willing to share your time and your gifts. Thank you!

GOT YOUR “CORN” ON??

Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor.

LORD’S PRAYER FOCUS

We have been focusing on the Lord’s Prayer in our Lenten Study, and with the weekly messages during worship. The 3rd grade Sunday School class is also learning about The Lord’s Prayer. To assist in this focus, we have been using different versions of The Lord’s Prayer during worship, including in our prayer time. The wording will be reflected in our order of worship as well as on the screens. The focus of this series and the different wording is to help us reconnect with the deeper meaning and power of this beautiful prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer (The Good News Translation)

‘Our Father in heaven: May your holy name be honored; may your Kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today the food we need. Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.  Do not bring us to hard testing but keep us safe from the Evil One.  For everything is yours, even all power and glory, now and always.  Amen

LORD’S PRAYER FOCUS

During the next 6-7 weeks we will be focusing on the Lord’s Prayer in our Lenten Study, and with the weekly messages during worship. The 3rd grade Sunday School class is also learning about The Lord’s Prayer. To assist in this focus, we will be using different versions of The Lord’s Prayer during worship, including in our prayer time. The wording will be reflected in our order of worship as well as on the screens. The focus of this series and the different wording is to help us reconnect with the deeper meaning and power of this beautiful prayer.
